Funny Car Chaos

Image -

More than 100 people attended Mo-Kan Dragway’s Funny Car Chaos race Saturday. Customized vehicles sped down the track, reaching speeds that top more than 200 mile per hour.
Funny cars got their name from their tilted up bodies which makes them look odd when compared to other cars. There hasn’t been funny car races at the Mo-Kan Dragway in decades. Organizers say the fun event brings back a lot of nostalgia for some people.

Funny Cow review: Maxine Peake"s glum stand-up drama is no laughing matter

Image -
Director: Adrian Shergold. Cast: Maxine Peake, Paddy Considine, Tony Pitts, Stephen Graham, Kevin Eldon, Vic Reeves, Graham Fellows, Kevin Rowland, Corinne Bailey Rae, Richard Hawley, Alun Armstrong, Christine Bottomley. 15 cert, 103 mins
What Maggie Smith is to an acidic glower, or Jack Nicholson to a lewd smirk behind shades, Maxine Peake is to lighting a cigarette with trembling hands, and taking a sharp drag mid-monologue. She does a lot of this in Funny Cow, producing and starring as a fictional comedian in that least welcoming of environments: the 1970s Yorkshire stand-up circuit.
There are the boorish chauvinists telling her women aren’t funny – many in the audience, and more backstage, waiting for her to bomb. There’s a reek of …

Rampage digs its heels in at UK box office, but sunshine is real winner

Image -The winner: the weather
A combination of sunny skies and a relatively weak set of new releases ahead of Marvel’s Avengers: Infinity War combined to lay waste to the UK box office. Takings overall tumbled 55% from the previous frame, delivering the third-worst weekend of the past 12 months in the UK market, and the worst since early December. Apart from A Quiet Place, which fell 46%, and Black Panther, which fell 48%, every film in the Top 25 fell by at least 50% from the weekend before. Top title Rampage fell 55%, earning £1.41m in its second session for a £6.48m total. With kids back at school after the Easter holidays, family films fell particularly hard, with Peter Rabbit, for example, dropp…

"When you grow up your heart dies": how the coming-of-age film got smart

Image -Like Liam and Chris Hemsworth, the teen movie and the coming-of-age movie are easily confused but extremely different propositions. The teen movie is a celebration of teen-ness: the tribes, the slang, the annoying parents. The coming-of-ager is a more soulful phenomenon: yes, it looks at teen life, but something deeper about the human spirit is revealed, and just because it might happen on a prom dancefloor doesn’t in any way diminish the epiphanical uplift. Put it this way: with a teen film what you remember is the funny teen stuff, with a coming-of-age film you remember the emotions.
Both the teen movie and the coming-of-age movie came of age in the 1980s, and it seems obvious now that the two g…

The best films about standup: from King of Comedy to Funny Bones

Image -The King of Comedy (1982)
There’s something so intimate, exposing and ruthless about their artform that standups make perfect symbols for the battle we all wage to assert ourselves against an unappreciative world. So most movies about standup focus on failures rather than successes – none more so than King of Comedy, Martin Scorsese and Robert De Niro’s less celebrated follow-up to Taxi Driver and Raging Bull.

Watch a trailer for The King of Comedy

Here is a film that spotlights the idea of standups as tormented souls, walking personality disorders in spinning bow ties. De Niro is the gag man in question, whose career frustrations, mental ill-health and obsession with TV talkshow host Je…

Does your pooch really need Prozac?

“There are a few options for treating your depression,” I say to the patient. “But I think this medication may help.”
The patient starts laughing. “That’s pretty funny, Doctor.”
“I’m sorry?”
“My dog takes the same pill!”
The interface between pets and mental-health care has been a hot-button issue in recent years. The evidence that therapy animals can help treat people with psychiatric issues is patchy, yet emotional-support animals seem to be everywhere, perhaps most noticeably on planes. The Internet was in an uproar not long ago over reports that a traveler attempted to bring an emotional-support peacock onto a flight.
Meanwhile, veterinary providers and pet owners are paying increased attention to such problems as separation anxiety, compulsive behaviors, phobias and aggression in pets. A…

Club Mexicana at the Spread Eagle, London: "Too much fun for Morrissey" – restaurant review

Image -The term “vegan pub”, which describes the Spread Eagle in Hackney, east London, is instinctively a funny one. Merely sprinkle “vegan pub” into any sentence, and it conjures up mental images of wan-faced fun-phobes sipping half-pints of unfiltered oatmeal stout in a room ripe with high-fibre flatulence. The vegan pub’s jukebox would offer one choice: an extended, 14-minute remix of Meat Is Murder by The Smiths. “This beautiful creature must die!” Mozza screams, incessantly, as drinkers force down vegan pork scratchings made from zero-waste parsnip scrapings.
Well, the Spread Eagle is none of these things. It is, in fact, a cheerful, gregarious boozer in London’s, ahem, Vegan Quart…

Outnumbered 2018: Tyger Drew-Honey CONFIRMS show return to BBC

Image -

Tyger Drew-Honey, who played Jake Brockman in the sitcom, was appearing on the quiz show alongside teammate Ann Widdecombe.
The 22-year-old was questioned by show host Alexander Armstrong about the return of the popular programme.
Alexander asked: “Tyger, what age were you when you first started acting?”
The actor replied: “I was ten. Some of that was with you actually!”
Smiling at the thought, Alexander reminisced: “I played your father. But that wasn’t one of your first jobs though, was it?”

Tyger then revealed: “No, it was actually! I did the Armstrong and Miller show before I’d been cast in Outnumbered.”
Alexander continued: “But Outnumbered was just about to happen I think, wasn’t it?”
The Cuckoo actor replied: “I think it was. It was straight after, yeah.”
Quizmaster Alexander, 48, then teased a reunion, asking: “And that has g…

Presidents don"t always find the jokes funny

For the second year in a row, President Trump is breaking tradition by not attending the annual White House Correspondents’ Dinner, and CNN’s Ana Cabrera says Trump may be trying to avoid facing jokes like the ones previous presidents have endured.

The irony of the Warner family paparazzi window smash incident -Candice Warner’s brother, Tim Falzon, will front court for allegedly smashing the front windscreen of 21-year-old paparazzo Jayden Seyfarth‘s car last weekend after he took and sold pictures of a hard hat-clad David Warner keeping himself busy during his 12-month cricket ban slogging it away on a building site.
But it seems a little ironic to The Goss that the Warner family set upon one pap, when they have been staging shots for years with another.

“I was shocked that I was attacked when it’s well-known that they do set-ups with Kirk Powell,” Seyfarth told Fairfax Media.
Although Powell of KHAPGG, a former professional Jamaican cricketer-turned-paparazzo, would not not confirm he often works with the sporting couple, he and his colleague Guil Gros have been there to document the family’s most mantelpiece-worthy moments, incl…

Avengers star Sebastian Stan can"t say the word "meme"

Image -

You may have noticed that a little film called Avengers: Infinity War is out. It’s kind of a big deal.
Any film that is ten years in the making is bound to attract a lot of fans and we all know what modern-day fans want; that’s right, memes.
Almost all of the Marvel characters have had their fair share of memes but, for some reason, the internet really loves memes of Bucky – aka The Winter Soldier.

sebastian stan
– a walking meme
– an amazing actor
– so smol
– #1 bucky barnes stan
