European Championships: WATCH funny moment decathlete"s pole SNAPS mid-vault
The European Championships are in full swing in Berlin, Germany, and Glasgow, Scotland.
However, it was a nightmare day for Swedish Nilsson who has been competing in the decathlon in Berlin.
Nilsson was taking his second attempt at the 4.70 metres in the pole vault when it went very wrong.
Mid-way through the jump, Nilsson’s pole snapped in two and he was went tumbling into the mat.
“It’s always a bit scary and you get a little shaken,” he told SVT after the awkward moment.
“I have never done such a huge break before.”
Nilsson took to Instagram after his mistake and posted a snap of him at the competition with the caption: “I’m sorry.”
But fans were quick to comment on the picture and offer their support to the 27-year-old.
“Don’t be sorry you are just learning now, to be best in Tokyo 2020,” one fan wrote.
Another said: “You have not made any disappointment. Fight on in that heat is a business just that! You are an idol to many even when you are not satisfied yourself.”
“Up with your head and keep driving hard! It"s all part of the game,” a third supporter said.
