According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, 370 of the 991 construction fatalities in 2016 were caused by falls from elevation, and all of these deaths were preventable. And while construction workers are most at risk, falls can happen in agriculture, manufacturing, transportation, and virtually any other industry that may involve working from height. Following highway crashes, falls are the second leading cause of workplace death. With this in mind, the Master Builders’ Association (MBA) and Simcoach Games have introduced their latest construction safety game, Site Coach: Ladder Safety . Site Coach: Ladder Safety is a video game designed to raise awareness of risks related to ladder safety on const...

In a cold redbrick terraced house on Westfield Road in Harold’s Cross, Dublin, I’m walking around with blue plastic bags on my feet, looking at pictures of the family who really own this house, while actors Eva Birthistle and Catherine Walker are wandering around joking about their onscreen hair styles. “It’s all about volume,” Birthistle is saying. “All about the volume.” It’s the set of The Delinquent Season , a low-budget domestic drama set in a series of middle-class homes, not a space ship, submarine or underground lair, and it’s Mark O’Rowe’s film directorial debut. “I’d directed theatre but not film,” says the award-winning writer of Howie the Rookie , Intermission and Boy A . “It’s quite tough ...

So most movies about standup focus on failures rather than successes – none more so than King of Comedy , Martin Scorsese and Robert De Niro’s less celebrated follow-up to Taxi Driver and Raging Bull. [embedded content] Watch a trailer for The King of Comedy Here is a film that spotlights the idea of standups as tormented souls, walking personality disorders in spinning bow ties. De Niro is the gag man in question, whose career frustrations, mental ill-health and obsession w...

Takings overall tumbled 55% from the previous frame, delivering the third-worst weekend of the past 12 months in the UK market, and the worst since early December. Apart from A Quiet Place , which fell 46%, and Black Panther , which fell 48%, every film in the Top 25 fell by at least 50% from the weekend before. Top title Rampage fell 55%, earning £1.41m in its second session for a £6.48m total. With kids back at school after the Easter holidays, family films fell particularly hard, with Peter Rabbit...

The teen movie is a celebration of teen-ness: the tribes, the slang, the annoying parents. The coming-of-ager is a more soulful phenomenon: yes, it looks at teen life, but something deeper about the human spirit is revealed, and just because it might happen on a prom dancefloor doesn’t in any way diminish the epiphanical uplift. Put it this way: with a teen film what you remember is the funny teen stuff, with a coming-of-age film you remember the emotions. Both the teen movie and the coming-of-age movie came of age in the 1980s, and it seems obvious now that th...

And now, research on these flightless birds has found their distinct gate isn’t as cumbersome as it looks. “Though they look like a funny little mess when they’re on land, they actually are using their momentum and their side to side shuffling to help them get going,” says Kim Welfle, a keeper at the Toronto Zoo.
